VOLUNTEER CENTER
Kansas Democracy runs on the strength of volunteers. Especially now, with a historical 2026 election underway and record number of candidates - volunteers are needed. Please browse these lists and reach out for ones that spark your interest.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Kansas House, Senate and School Board Candidates: Many are looking for all kinds of volunteers - those with special skills and those with energy. Especially in our rural districts, the infrastructure for supporting campaigns is more limited and the scope for individual initiative is widest. Please review the list of candidates running and see reach out to offer your services.
Statewide Races, US Senate, US Congress: These candidates as well need support. We have a record number of candidates in contested primaries who are working hard for the nomination, and the successful nominee will need to pivot immediately to a difficult general campaign. Early volunteer energy makes a huge difference. To get involved, either each out directly to the campaigns via their websites, or for a referral you can contact Food and Farm Caucus. Immediate needs include:
Urban Counties: Door knocking, phone calls and text banks are already underway in many of the more populated areas, so if you live close or can volunteer on Saturdays, give them a call
Smaller Cities/Rural Counties - Many of the candidates are looking to build up their regional network of supporters and regional captains - it is generally harder to build up that network on short notice, especially with contested primaries where County Parties must wait for the nomination to play out. You can volunteer to be among the regional champions for your favorite candidate.
Digital and Social Media: If you have a flair for social media or websites, or even if you are just reasonably techie/digitally engaged and want to learn more - your candidates and County parties could use help. Contact Us or your local contacts directly to offer your services.
For those engaged in high quality Facebook postings, ask to join Unyielding Kansans. Blue.
Instagram, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky - many of our candidates are comfortable on Facebook, but aren’t up to speed on all the other channels. They can use folks with wider skill platforms to spread their message.
Food and Farm Caucus could use volunteers to help with all facets of the Harvest Blue website
Your local County Party could likely use more help on social media and website work (and hint: if your local party would like a website presence without the cost or hassle, contact us for a spot on Harvest Blue)
Candidates may need your help —- ask them.
Field Managers: Do you have experience with canvassing and phone banks? Have you worked on campaigns or county party-building before? Are you an experienced precinct leader or precinct volunteer who knows how to run a voter outreach effort and teach others? Your skills are golden, and so many of our candidates could use your help. Contact us if you need a referal, or please reach out directly to some candidates you can support.
Fundraising Chairs: Candidates need the cash to push their campaign forward. Many are nervous or reluctant to ask for money, and even those ready to go can use the support of those who have more experience and comfort with the delicate task of asking for money. If this is more comfortable for you, and especially if you are fortunate enough to have networks of those able to give modestly to support Democracy, your candidates will appreciate you. Contact them directly, or contact us for referrals.
House Party Hosts: Candidates need supporters and fundraising opportunities - if you can host a house party for one —- or if you can help coordinate a network of hosts, you will give them the key support they need. Learn more about House Parties here: https://www.harvestblue.org/newsroom/house-party-how-to Share this with your candidate or party - and if you need support or tips, Contact Us
Press and Print Media: Candidates need to as much “earned media” as they can get — articles written about their activities, follow-ups from candidate forums, interviews with reporters, etc. All legacy media coverage that they don’t have to pay for. If you have a journalism or writing background, they need your help with press releases, position statements, and direct contacts with reporters. Contact the campaign or reach out to us for referrals by media market.
Treasurer: A critical job on all campaigns, and one that many candidates struggle to fill. Food and Farm Caucus in particular is building a core team of experienced treasurers willing to train and support other with new campaigns, as well as build up a resource network of folks willing to act as Treasurer for a campaign. Contact Us if you can help.
VoteBuilder/Data: Targeting and data is crucial to our campaigns. Votebuilder is an acquired skill —- no matter your level of comfort, if you have ever worked with it you are needed. And if you have always wanted to learn, helping a candidate or County party out is the best way. This is a more specialized skill involving access to important data resources, so vetting for this role is by each candidate or County committee; and the KDP provides training. If you would like to learn more about how to get connected, Contact Us.
